Subhash Ghai ‘s Kisna, which stars Vivek Oberoi in the lead role, is one of the most eagerly awaited films in Bollywood.

Kisna is a period film set in the pre-independence era of 1930. It's a mega-historical that reflects on the strong emotional and human ties that link Britain to India. The film introduces two new faces on the Bollywood screen – Isha Shravani and Antonia Bernath.

The film is set in the India of the tumultuous 1930's when nationalists fighting for the country's independence rose up as one, urging the British to quit. At this time, a young Indian, Kisna (Vivek) befriends and then shields a British girl Katherine (Antonia), from an enraged mob of nationalists including Kisna's own uncle and brother.

Katherine is the young daughter of a ruthless British collector. Kisna takes it upon himself to escort Katherine to the safety of the British High Commission in New Delhi, who will arrange for her to board a ship home.

A tender attraction develops between Kisna and Katherine during the journey, a love story that is torn between ‘ Karma ' (the noble deed) and ‘ Dharma ' (the duty). Laxmi (Isha Shravani), the Indian girl Kisna is engaged to, forms the third point in an emotional triangle involving the Indo-British romantic pair.

Ghai has roped in Sushmita Sen to gyrate on a qawalli composed by Ismail Darbar and choreographed by Ghai favorite Saroj Khan.

The story of Kisna moves across the vast North Indian plains highlighting the different cultures and colors that make India unique.

The film is being shot simultaneously in two versions – English and in Hindi. While the Hindi version will be released like a normal biggie with the regular three-hour long show with its songs and dances targeted at the domestic market, the English version will be two hour long targeted at the global audience. A R Rehman has also recorded a special English number for the international version.

Both the versions will be released on the same date by the end of 2004.
