Hum Kaun Hai: An experiment gone wrong!

Director Ravi Shankar Sharma's Hum Kaun Hai is not an original effort but a half baked attempt to make a supernatural thriller on the lines of Nicole Kidman starrer 'The Others'.

The movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan , Dimple Kapadia , Dharamendra and Mausami Chatterji , intends to spook a viewer without resorting to any gory images but by creating an eerie atmosphere. But it falls flat owing to its sombre look and ineffective storytelling.

In the film Dimple plays an overprotective mother to two photo-sensitve children. She lives in a palatial house in which curtains are drawn all the time to not let even a single ray of sun inside. Amitabh plays a war veteran who returns home in a dazed state and is further dazed to find the mysterious happenings inside his home.

Sadly, Hum Kaun Hai does not stick to the original story of 'The Others', but the director takes liberty to give a different ending to the story. The movie starts on a promising note and becomes quite interesting with the entry of Amitabh, but it begins to drag in the second half before drawing to a dissappointing end.

Bachchan is in the movie in what can be termed as a marginal role. Dharamendra's character looks deliberately forced into the story to lighten up the otherwise grim story. The performances by the child artists are quite poor.

Dimple Kapadia impresses with her polished performance as an overprotective mother of two photo-sensitive children. The chemistry between Dimple and Amitabh is quite appealing in some portions -- particularly the dream sequence in which Amitabh recites a romantic poem to her.
