I did not act, I just played myself in DNJAK: Salman

Salman Khan turned down many scripts by Atull Agnihotri before the script of Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha caught his fancy. Reason? Salman’s character Rishabh in the film is close to his heart.

For one-and-a-half years, Atull (who is brother-in-law to Salman) kept on showing the actor many scripts, but nothing enthused the handsome Khan. At that point in his career, Atull had earned a reputation in the Television industry and was raring to direct a movie.

And when Atull narrated to Salman the script of Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, the actor showed more than casual interest.

“You see, I was looking for a very humane story that is not mushy or over-sentimental. And when Atull talked about DNJAK, I immediately related to my character Rishabh in the story. I knew that this is one role I can play convincingly. I did not act in the film. I just played myself,” explains Salman, who otherwise likes to keep his replies to single sentences only.

Salman added that what made him very optimistic about DNJAK is that it has “a perfect cast combination.”

DNJAK has Salman playing the male lead opposite Preity Zinta and Bhumika . In the film Salman plays a businessman who is in a very intimate relationship with a girl named Pari (Preity) until a tragedy takes her away from him. He goes into depression and gets a new lease of life after he meets a girl named Dhani (Bhumika). What follows is a subtle interplay of emotions that lead the main characters to discover the real meaning of love.
