Ranveer, the film that was billed to bring the father and son pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan , together for the first time on screen, has been shelved.
Ranveer, which also starred Sanjay Dutt , was launched last year on Bachchan’s 61st birthday – an event which also marked the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) in its new avtaar – AB Corp.
Ranveer was to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and was slated to be completed by mid-2004. The film was to be jointly produced by DMS films along with AB Corp.
But something or the other kept going wrong down the line. The script kept changing, with Santoshi showing up to four scripts to Bachchan – none of which satisfied him. Pressure and expectations on directing father and son kept mounting and the filmmaker remained unhappy.
According to Santoshi, the script did not shape up the way he and Bachchan had envisaged and the end result of all this was that Ranveer was shelved unceremoniously.
With Ranveer shelved, the public will have to wait for the release of Ram Gopal Verma ‘s Sarkaar and Shaad Ali’s Bunty Aur Babli, in which the father-son pair will be coming together on screen.
