Hong Kong - the new destination for Indian film-makers

It's Bollywood's rush hour to Hong Kong. The night view of Hong Kong's dazzling skyline, the legendary Star Ferry and its thriving street markets are all fast becoming popular with Indian show merchants.

Infact noted directors and producers from Mumbai were recently in Hong Kong to participate in Bollywood Movie Magic to showcase the vibrancy of Hong Kong as a premiere destination and vibrant location for Bollywood filming.

The 2002 hit Ram Gopal Verma 's Company has featured new HK airport, harbour view, Islands on the South China Sea and the night view of one of the world's most photogenic cities.

Earlier Naam and Gumrah by Mahesh Bhatt , and both of which had Sanjay Dutt in the lead role, 'Johar Mehmood in Hong Kong' and ‘Lahu ke do Rang’ were also shot in Hong Kong.

Hollywood's vibrancy has been seen on the silver screen in Hollywood blockbusters like 'The Man with the Golden Gun, a James Bond Classic,' 'Rush Hour 2' and 'Tomb Raider 2'.

"The Hong Kong government has created an exclusive department - the Television & Entertainment Licencing Authority (TELA) to facilitate filming services and act as a one-shop stop for the production houses," according to a Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) official.

The HKTB and TELA are encouraging Indian film makers to use the diverse locales of Hong Kong as shooting backdrops, the official says, noting HKTB at present is also evaluating quite a few proposals for filming in Hong Kong from Indian film makers keeping in mind the quality of content and the extent of exposure given to the destination in the project.
