Rekha named Maha Style Icon of the Year

She may have turned 50 on October 10, but saying that Rekha will put many young Bollywood female stars to shame with her style sense, will not be an understatement.

The enigmatic actress and timeless beauty was recently named the Maha Style Icon of the Year at Lycra MTV Style Awards 2004.

The glittering function was held at Mumbai's Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium on Friday and was attended by almost one and all in Bollywood.

Sanjay Dutt and Preity Zinta emerged as Bollywood's most stylish pair.

The winners in different categories included: Kumarmangalam Birla (Stylish Business - Male), Farookh Sheikh (Most Stylish Person on Television - Male), Raveena Tandon (Most Stylish Person on Television - Female), Baichung Bhutia (Most Stylish Person in Sports), Shaan (Most Stylish Person in Music - Male), Sophia (Music - Female) and Aki Narula (Designer of the Year). Sachin Pilot walked away with the honours in the Politics category.

The celebrities who lit up the function included Bipasha Basu , Cleo Isaacs , sisters Shilpa Shetty and Shamita Shetty , Amrita Arora and the cast of Musafir - Dutt, Anil Kapoor , Sameera Reddy , Koena Mitra , Aditya Pancholi , Mahesh Manjrekar and director Sanjay Gupta .

Dutt reveal what style meant to him. "It's the way you carry yourself, the way you dress and the way you are. That is what makes you stylish. My personal style statement is nothing more than a simple white shirt and blue jeans," he claimed.

Karan Johar , who collected the award on Preity's behalf, certainly thought the dimpled beauty was in vogue. "Not only is Preity a wonderful actress, she's also an inherently stylish person and richly deserves the award," he said.

But the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Rekha. And the enigmatic actress was in her elements when she went up on stage. It was an honour, she said, to receive the same award that had gone to Amitabh Bachchan last year.
