Koena Mitra feels contemptuous towards the ‘item girl’ tag she was given after her sizzling dance number in the movie Road .
Koena has been getting numerous offers for single song appearances in Bollywood films, but the Bengali belle has been turning them down. Why? Because she wants to do sensible roles.
Koena recently told Mid-Day: “I don’t like this item number concept at all. I hate being called an item girl. Just because I have danced in a particular film does not mean that I am an item number myself. I don’t know who coined this item tag. It’s disgusting.”
As her first step into sensible roles, Koena will be seen playing a simple, sari-clad housewife of a police officer in the forthcoming movie Insan.
“I have not danced at all in Insan. I play wife to Ajay Devgan who is a cop. She is a contemporary woman. You’ll see me in saris, churidar-kurtas and western wear,” Koena told the entertainment daily.
Koena’s other forthcoming films include David Dhawan’s Shaadi No 1 with Fardeen Khan and Zayed Khan . She is also doing a Telugu film with actor Nagarjuna.
