Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj ’s next project is the cinematic adaptation of writer Ruskin Bond’s short story ‘The Blue Umbrella’.
The movie is titled Chhatri Chor, and stars the exceptionally talented Pankaj Kapur with a newcomer child artist Shreya.
In the film, Shreya plays an 11-yr-old girl who lives in a remote Indian village. She trades a leopard’s claw with some Japanese tourists for a beautiful umbrella.
Pankaj Kapur plays an old, unmarried school teacher who wants to posses that umbrella. The film shows the gradual transition of the two characters – the girl and the teacher.
Vishal has previously made a children’s film Makdee that won awards at international film festivals. However, Chhatri Chor will not be a children’s film.
Vishal’s last film Maqbool also starred Pankaj Kapur.
