SCOOP!! & NEWS Ashwin ‘optimistic’ for the Oscar night27th Feb 2005 19.39 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau As the red carpet is laid and the stage all set at the Kodak Theatre for the 77th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night (LA time), India’s Oscar hopeful Ashwin Kumar is keeping his fingers crossed. Ashwin’s film Little Terrorist is contending for an Oscar in the Short Feature Film category. The film tells the tale of a Pakistani boy who crosses the Indo-Pak line-of-control to get back his cricket ball and has to take shelter with a Hindu Brahmin.
If we gauge the response to Ashwin’s film at other festivals, chances are quite strong that the young Indian will bring an Oscar statuette back home. Ashwin has been in the US for quite some time, lobbying his movie (although short films don’t need as much lobbying as the full-length feature films) and also finding possible funds for his next movie ‘Road To Ladakh’. Ashwin went through the dress rehearsal for Oscar night and was made to accept the award in case he won. “It was all hugely intimidating,” he is quoted by Mid-Day. He said that he was feeling “nervous” but also “very optimistic” about his film’s prospects of winning an Oscar. “If I actually have to go up there in front of the world, with people like Mike Leigh and Michael Caine and Martin Scorsese sitting in the audience, I'll be petrified!” another report quotes him as saying. Ashwin’s date for the Oscar ceremony will be his fiancé Divya.
