Aamir Khan 's new film ‘Mangal Pandey - The Rising ‘ seems to be making news even before its much-awaited release later this month.
Chosen as the opening film at the 58th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, it got a standing ovation.
Aamir, Rani Mukherjee , director Ketan Mehta and producer Bobby Bedi attended the screening of the film at the festival.
The most expensive film in the history of Bollywood has Aamir playing Mangal Pandey, the heroic sepoy who led mutiny against the British in 1857. It is said that Mangal Pandey provided the first spark that led to a bigger freedom movement throughout India in the late 19th century.
‘The Rising’ is aptly timed to release on August 12, just three days before the Indians celebrate the day of their Independence from the British imperialism.
This is Aamir's first film in four years after the superhit Dil Chahta Hai .
