Pakistani actress Meera , who a few months back had vehemently supported joint Indo-Pak cine productions, has now done a volte-face. She now backs the ban on screening of Bollywood films in Pak.
Meera’s first Bollywood movie Nazar itself was a joint co-production between the filmmakers of India and Pak. Since then the actress donned herself as an ambassador of peace between the two nations.
But now, she has taken a big U-turn, much to the ‘pleasant’ surprise of the Pakistani Cultural Ministry and to the shock of the people (particularly the Bhatt camp) who have worked hard to bridge the gap between the two rival nations via cinema.
Meera says Indian movies reflect a culture and mindset that is different from Pakistani culture and values.
The Daily Times quotes Meera as saying: "India has a different culture, Indians have a different mindset and Indian movies should not be screened in Pakistan. We should produce our own movies. We are Muslims and we have to make films that depict our own culture."
Meera’s second Hindi film Kasak was released last Friday. It has turned out to be a dud. She is presently acting in a few other Bollywood movies, including a film in which she plays the famous courtesan, Umrao Jaan.
