After casting Amitabh Bachchan as Gabbar Singh, Abhishek Bachchan as Veeru, Mohit Ahlawat as Jai, Varma has now casted the sexy Katrina Kaif in a role in his remake. 
The surprise is that role was played by none other than Jaya Bachchan in the original – that of the chhoti bahu – whose husband is killed by the dacoits, and who is almost married to Jai before he too succumbs to the bullets of the dacoits. Now that role didn’t have glamour associated to it. In fact, there was only sequence in Sholay which had Jaya laughing and making merry (all will recall that Holi sequence before her marriage). But Katrina in that role? Katrina is as glamorous as it gets, but then Varma is also as surprising as one can imagine. We have already told you that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will play the Thakur -- brilliantly executed by the late Sanjeev Kumar in the original -- in Varma's audacious venture in the making. Now only one role – that of Basanti immortalized by Hema Malini – is left. Any guesses who will land with the coveted role? Make one and Varma will surprise you again.
