As we have already told you, Abhishek is going to be the hero of Dutta’s next movie Umrao Jaan that has Aishwarya Rai playing the title role of a courtesan-poetess.
Abhishek, who began his acting career with Dutta’s Refugee and also acted in the filmmaker’s LoC Kargil , says he can’t turn down an offer from Dutta.
“With JP saab there's no question of saying no. Even if he asks me to do one passing shot, I'd happily do it,” Abhishek is quoted as saying.
Abhishek also credits Dutta for his growth as an actor.
“Everything I know about acting, everything that my career has achieved is because of JP saab,” Abhishek says.
Abhishek’s affection and regard is equally reciprocated by Dutta. The filmmaker says he couldn’t see anyone else playing the hero, who is poetic, is a dreamer and can stand to the heroine Aishwarya Rai as her ideal partner.
Yet, Dutta was hesitant to approach Abhi for the role because he knew that the junior Bachchan wouldn’t turn him down. He was apprehensive to ask Abhi something he knew he (Abhi) wouldn’t refuse.
Such is the mutual respect Abhi and Dutta have for each other.
By the way, Umrao Jaan will have Shabana Azmi playing Ash’s mother. Sunil Shetty , another one of Dutta’s favorites, will play the pivotal role of bandit Faiz Ali in the film.
