The ‘perfectionist’ Khan will now be seen with another Briton beauty in Rang De Basanti . Aamir’s much-feted Lagaan had the actor pairing with Rachel Shelley . And his latest release ‘Mangal Pandey The Rising ’ had Coral Beed in a marginal role opposite him. Both the actresses were not Aamir’s love interest in the respective films.
Perhaps the same can also be said of Rakesh Omprakash Mehra ’s movie Rang De Basanti, which is going to be the next Aamir Khan release. The movie has British theatre actress Alice Patten paired with him. But, because the movie is based on the complexities of modern relationships, it cannot be said that Patten plays Aamir’s romantic interest in the film. Rang De Basanti is the story of four protagonists. The movie’s cast includes, Aamir, Madhavan , south Indian star Siddartha and Kunal Kapoor (acted in MF Hussain’s ‘Meenaxi’). Soha Ali Khan is paired with Madhavan in the film. Speaking about the relationships of the characters in the film, Rakesh Mehra told a senior journalist: “It’s very difficult to specify the relationships in Rang De Basanti. All I can say is, it’s a modern film, depicting contemporary relationships.” Previous reports had it that the film tells the story of an American girl who comes to India to make a documentary on freedom fighter and martyr Bhagat Singh. Aamir is learnt to be playing a radio jockey in the film. Earlier, plans were to make the movie in Hindi and English. But now the idea to make the English version (Paint It Yellow) has been scrapped. Rang De Basanti is being produced by UTV. The movie’s shooting is complete and the director is reported to be working on the background score nowadays. The film is likely to hit the marquee in January next year.
