Mallika, Jackie promote 'The Myth' in India

The Jackie Chan starrer The Myth , which has Mallika Sherawat in a small role, is set to release in India this week.

And Jackie is visiting India to promote his film and though Mallika wasn’t there to receive him at the airport, she was there to accompany him on the press meet of the publicity of the film.

And Jackie told the press in Mumbai he hoped that one day he would do a film with Indian stars. "At present, I don't know anything about the Indian film industry. The box office, the theatres, the kind of films you make... In the near future, I hope to do a film with Indian filmmakers," the martial arts superstar said.

“Since India and China together make up half the world's population, it is difficult to ignore the two markets”, Chan said.

"I'm in talks with a couple of Indian actors, including Akshay Kumar , but nothing has materialised yet," Chan added.

When he was asked who his favourite Indian actor is, Chan joked, "I don't know his name but I can recognize him from a picture."

Asked what expectations he had from ‘The Myth’ in India, Chan replied, "I don't know much about the Indian film market. But I hope Indians will love my work."

The 51-year-old actor, who said that charity gave him a lot of happiness, handed out a cheque of Rs 500,000 to the Salaam Balak Trust, which was set up by acclaimed New York-based filmmaker Mira Nair to help street children.

"The amount will be utilised to teach judo to street children every Saturday," Chan explained.

Awards give me as much satisfaction as charity does. But while the happiness out of awards is momentary, bringing smiles to children's faces gives me everlasting happiness," Chan added.

"I have earned enough fame and money. Now, it's payback time. That's why I'm involved in a lot of charity work."

A three-minute film highlighting his charity work across the world was screened next.

Director Stanley Tong explained, "The story of Myth is about Jackie Chan and in that story, a part is based on his travel to India. So, we cast Mallika accordingly.

"Mallika is a very sexy actress. She has performed well in the film and her work speaks for herself," said Tong, when grilled about Mallika's role in the movie.

Also present at the press meet was United Television Chief Executive Officer Ronnie Screwvala, whose company will be distributing ‘The Myth’ in India.
