HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Salman Khan sentenced to one-year imprisonment17th Feb 2006 22.00 IST By Agencies Bollywood star Salman Khan was sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs 5,000 after being found guilty in black buck killing case by a court in Jodhpur on Friday. The court found Salman guilty of killing two chinkaras or black bucks, a deer species, at Bhavad village in Rajasthan in 1998. The star has been convicted under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The 40-year-old Bollywood star was present when the judgement was pronounced in the packed courtroom of Jodhpur. Seven other accused in the case, including comedian Satish Shah, were acquitted by Chief Judicial Magistrate B K Jain. The sentence will come into effect after one month. It was one of four cases filed against the actor for poaching endangered animals. Salman was charged with hunting chinkaras during the night of September 26-27, 1998 when he was in Jodhpur for the shooting of Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Saath Saath Hain . Salman and other actors starring in the film were booked by the Rajasthan forest department on charges of poaching endangered animals. The actor still has the option to appeal against the court’s verdict. Salman's father, Salim Khan, is quoted as saying that Salman’s lawyers will appeal against the verdict.
