Humko Tumse Pyaar HaiHumko Tumse Pyaar Hai – Review

Vikram Bhatt and Bunty Soorma’s movie ‘Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai’, like its title, is plain ordinary. The movie’s story, despite certain engaging twists, is something that has been seen many a time in the past.

Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai stars Amisha Patel , Arjun Rampal , Bobby Deol , Kanwaljeet, Suhasini Mulay and Parmeet Sethi.

The movie begins with a flashback, told by a girl who slit her wrists to commit suicide. The story travels back in time to a Rajasthani village. Durga (Amisha Patel) is a blind girl with an artistic talent for pottery. In an hour of need, a young man named Rohit (Arjun Rampal) helps her and subsequently falls in love with her.

Durga reciprocates Rohit’s feelings and the match is also approved by her mother (Suhasini Mulay). Just when things seem to be going hunky dory, enters the villain – Rana (Parmeet Sethi). When Rana’s proposal is spurned by Durga, he tries to force himself upon her. But Durga’s mother comes to her rescue.

Rana comes to know of the love between Durga and Rohit. He decides to kill him. But accidentally, Durga’s mother is killed.

Rohit rescues Durga from a burning house and later takes her to a hospital for eye operation that will bring back her eyesight. The operation is successful. But before the crucial moment when Durga’s bandages are opened, Rohit is killed in a scuffle with Rana.

Durga is shattered and slits her wrists.

Dr. R.K. Prasad (Kanwaljeet), Durga’s eye doctor and the patient listener of her story, takes the bereaving girl under his wing. He sees her as his own daughter. Durga and the doc go to Switzerland, the perfect setting for the entry of the second hero.

Raj (Bobby Deol) is a businessman who is smitten with Durga at first sight. Like Durga, he too is bereaving the death of a very close friend. Durga doesn’t reciprocate Raj’s feelings at first. Gradually, after a few good gestures by Raj and a little insistence from her new father figure, Durga mellows and agrees to an engagement with Raj.

With another crucial moment in the offing, the director throws in another twist.

‘Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai’ has a very ordinary first half. The romance between the two main characters and the intervention by a villain hardly has any novelty. The second half does have a few engaging moments. But they soon begin to wither away. The finale is a letdown.

For the most part throughout the film, Amisha Patel’s acting is limited to tragic and sad facial expressions. Arjun Rampal is adequate as usual. His performance remains on an even par and never rises above this level, except perhaps toward the end.

Bobby Deol delivers a convincing enough performance. He credibly brings forth the inner emotional turmoil of his character as the story progresses towards its predictable conclusion.
