Aishwarya Rai ’s latest film Mistress Of Spices tells the story of a woman with magical powers of healing people through spices. The film explores the dilemma that this woman faces when she falls in love and has to choose between her magical art and her heart.

The film is the directorial debut of Paul Mayeda Berges, the husband of Gurinder Chadha in whose movie Bride And Prejudice Aishwarya Rai has previously acted.

'Mistress Of Spices' is based on a book of the same title by author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The movie stars Aishwarya Rai with the 44-yr-old American actor Dylan McDermott .

The movie has Ash playing an enigmatic young woman named Tilo who is trained in the ancient magical art of healing through spices. She has special powers to look into people's lives and gauge their problems. She offers remedies through the spices she sells in a small San Francisco store called the 'Spice Bazaar'.

Although Tilo helps others better their lives, she herself lives quite an austere life. It is because she has to follow some strict rules for her practice in the art of spices.

Rule 1. She must use spices only to help others.
Rule 2. She must avoid direct physical contact with another human.
Rule 3. She must never abandon her spice store.

Tilo's life changes with the coming of Doug, an architect who is injured in an accident outside her spice store. Tilo helps the handsome architect without realizing that she has unknowingly broken her first rule. Then later, when Doug strikes a friendship with her, he and Tilo touch each other and Tilo's second rule, too, is broken.

And then Doug asks her out for a date. Reluctant at first, Tilo eventually gives in to her feelings and leaves her spice store for an outing with Doug, thereby breaking her third rule as well.

It is then the spices begin to punish her customers, who instead of getting cured begin to get worse. Tilo now has to make a very tough choice.

'Mistress Of Spices' tells the story of a woman who is steeped in the traditional art of healing through spices and how her life changes with the coming of a stranger. The film explores the dilemma of a woman who has to choose between her magical art and her heart.

The movie also stars Anupam Kher , Ayesha Dharkar , Nitin Ganatra, Nina Young and Zohra Sehgal.

The film is set to release on April 28 in India.
