'Munnabhai' is going to Oscars!

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of Lage Raho Munnabhai , is sending the much-acclaimed film as an independent entry to the Academy Awards.

‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, the movie loved unanimously by critics and audiences, is the only Bollywood film that comes close to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s masterpiece Rang De Basanti in terms of concept, cinematic execution and unique style of storytelling.

We know that RDB has been chosen as the official Indian entry to the Oscars. It has disappointed some fans of ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’. Even Aamir Khan , the lead star of RDB, has said that it is a tough call to choose between the two films.

Responding to the popular sentiment, the film’s producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has decided to send it as an independent entry to the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts for the best foreign film category.

Reports have it that the US wing of Eros International will prepare the application to seek an entry for ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ to the Oscars.

Chopra says he has been inspired to send the film after an overwhelming response from fans across the world. Chopra holds the firm conviction that ‘Munnabhai’ is a cinematic work that ought to be shown at different film festivals around the world.
The film has already been invited for a special screening at the University of Southern California on 27th October.

On a different front, acclaimed filmmaker Jahnu Barua is also sending his movie Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara as an independent entry for the Oscars.

Well, so much of good cinema was produced in Bollywood this year that it is difficult to decide which film merits an entry to the Oscars and which doesn’t.

It remains to be seen which of these films will eventually get a nomination.
