Mera Dil Leke DekkhoMera Dil Leke Dekkho : Movie Review

Mera Dil Leke Dekkho is a comedy of many errors. While the film’s story and the situational turns in it have a scope for witty humour, what we eventually get to see is nothing more than unadulterated juvenile slapstick.

A young girl is desperate to get married to a guy who is merely flirting with her. Then there is a crazy family in which the wife suspects her husband of being bisexual and her son of being a gay. And there is a mistress who suspects her lover of being a homosexual. A confusing tangle? Yes, it is. These are the characters of Punam Sinha’s (Shatrughan Sinha’s wife) first production venture ‘Mera Dil Leke Dekkho’.

Koel Purie plays a London-born Punjabi girl who comes to India to marry a guy ( Puneet Tejwani ) who only wants to flirt with her. Koel’s plan is to stay in Puneet’s house and win over his parents to accept her marriage with him.

Puneet’s parents ( Archana Puran Singh and Jackie Shroff ) are a squabbling lot. While Jackie is a philanderer who has a secret mistress, Archana is an Art of Living follower with a very suspicious mind.

As Koel comes into the household, Puneet hides her away from his parents. Puneet also has a male friend (Carran Kapoor) who gets a little too physical in displaying his friendliness.

As a result, Archana thinks Puneet is a gay and having an affair with Carran. She also suspects her husband (Jackie) of the same. Even Jackie’s mistress believes that he is a homosexual. Koel, who came all the way from London to marry Puneet, also starts believing that Puneet is a gay because he doesn’t reciprocate her feelings. And her affection too is fickle. Soon it shifts to Puneet’s friend (Premjit Singh). But it turns out that Premjit is the gayest of all.

‘Mera Dil Leke Dekkho’ could have been much better than what it turns out to be. The story idea is quite novel and refreshing. But the script is not taught enough to churn out good quality humour.

The jokes are puerile and have a sleazy flavour at times. The music is forgettable and the direction by debutant Rohit Kaushik is plain mediocre.

The acting performances are over the top. Only Archana Puran Singh delivers a performance that evokes guffaws from the audience. She is very natural at going over the top. Jackie Shroff is theatrical while Puneet Tejwani and Carran Kapoor are just about tolerable. Koel Purie looks charming and cute, playing a Punjabi girl.

On the whole, ‘Mera Dil Leke Dekkho’ is good for whiling away your time. But don’t expect a laugh riot from it.
