''Lage Raho Munnabhai' bowled over critics in the US'

The immensely talented and versatile actor Boman Irani is confident that Lage Raho Munnabhai will do well at the Oscars saying that the film bowled over critics in the US.

The film, which starred Sanjay Dutt , Vidya Balan , Arshad Warsi and Irani, has entered in the 'independent category' after losing the official entry status from India to Rang De Basanti .

"One of the script writers of the movie Abhijat Joshi, who teaches in the US, showed it to film critics there, and they were completely bowled over and said that it deserved to be at the Oscars," he said and added, " we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Irani also sniggered at the controversy over the word 'Gandhigiri' in the sequel to Munnabhai MBBS .

"'Gandhigiri' is an idiom that today's masses can associate, hence its popularity. Even Gandhiji used common man's language to express his views," said Irani who was in New Delhi to participate in a 'public conversation'.

Irani who himself played Gandhiji in a play, "Mahatma vs Gandhi" said, "I read that the simplicity of the language Gandhiji applied to connect with the masses was deliberate, director Rajkumar Hirani used the same logic here".

Meanwhile, Munnabhai's Gandhigiri has touched the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh and the film is expected to be exempted from entertainment tax in the state before Eid and Diwali.

UP is likely to be the third state after Delhi and Maharashtra to exempt the film from entertainment tax for one month.

Official sources said the orders for giving tax exemption to the blockbuster have come from the top.

The government's decision for exempting a feature film from tax are based on the report of the committee headed by the Commissioner of Entertainment Tax department. The other members of the committee include the officials from the Information Department and Tax and Registration department.
