Finally, Big B gives nod to Deepa Mehta's film

After months of deliberation, superstar Amitabh Bachchan has given his nod to Deepa Mehta’s movie Exclusion .

It was at the last year’s Toronto Film Festival when Deepa Mehta first approached Amitabh Bachchan for the role of a revolutionary in her movie based on the true story of the ship Komagata Maru’s voyage from India to Canada and then back home in the 19th century.

Bachchan was in Toronto to promote Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna while Deepa was there for her movie Water .

Back then, Bachchan had shown interest in ‘Exclusion’, but he did not give his final nod to the project.

And now, two days back (on Friday), Deepa Mehta flew down to Mumbai and met Bachchan. The superstar finally agreed to act in the film.

Mehta says it is her “dream come true” to be able to direct Mr. Bachchan.

Besides Big B, the film also stars John Abraham .

‘Exclusion’ tells the tale of Indians who fled the country and sailed for Canada to escape persecution at the hands of the British in the early 19th century when India was still under the British rule. It was a voyage marked with tragedy. The Indians on the ship, Komagata Maru, weren’t allowed to enter Canada. A legal battle followed, which the Indians lost. Dejected and homeless, the ship sailed back to India. Upon reaching India the ship came under fire from the British forces.

The voyage was carried under the leadership of Gurdit Singh, the protagonist of Mehta’s movie. Amitabh Bachchan will play this role.
