A leading UK University will confer on Bollywood star and Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty today an honorary doctorate for her outstanding contribution to cultural diversity.
The Leeds Metropolitan University, conferring the doctorate to the 32-year-old star, has fulfilled its wish to honour prominent Indian personalities who contributed to India's emergence as a fast developing cinema-proud nation during its 60th year of freedom struggle, a spokeswoman of the University said.
The Mangalore-born Shilpa is the youngest actor from the Indian film fraternity to join ranks of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan , veteran actress Shabana Azmi and producer-director Yash Chopra who have been earlier chosen for the honour.
"The honorary doctorate is in recognition of Shilpa's outstanding contribution to cultural diversity and good relations between the peoples of the United Kingdom and India. It's a proud moment for all of us," added Dale Bhagwagar, Shilpa’s spokesperson.
