'Heyy Babyy' premieres in Sydney

The first Bollywood film to be set entirely in Sydney, Heyy Babyy starring Akshay Kumar , Vidya Balan , Ritesh Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan , was previewed on August 23 at the State Theatre in Sydney, ahead of its world-premiere in Mumbai.

More than 200 high-profile guests were showered with flower petals as they walked the red carpet – a traditional Indian welcome. Guests were also entertained by a group of Indian dancers.

Minister for Tourism Matt Brown welcomed a mix of film industry representatives including leading film producers, John Winter and Jim McElroy, actors Jessica Napier and Deborah Lee Furness along with Indian business leaders, 20 top-tier Indian travel wholesalers and representatives of the NSW tourism industry. The film received a good response by the 200 plus audience.

Speaking on the occasion, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sajid Khan said, ''Family comes first to every Indian and being a traditional Indian, I have always made sure that my family has the first look at all my films. Today, Sydney is part of my extended family and it was logical that Sydney and Australia get the first look of the film.''

Foreign Correspondents’ Association Vice-President Nina Bhandari said, ''Heyy Babyy captures the ambience and flavour that makes this Harbour City such a hit for travellers and migrants. The film showcases icons like, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, along with the city's landscape that makes Sydney such a sought-after destination.''

Meanwhile in Mumbai, the film got an unprecedented opening at the Box Office.

The verdict of Critics and trade analysts are unanimous in suggesting that the bumper opening of 'Heyy Babyy' shows that the movie is very well made.

Speaking to reporters today Proprietor of Gaiety Galaxy Manoj Desai said, ''The opening is bumper. It is 100 per cent till Tuesday. Considering that the capacity of Gaiety is 1000 seats, it is an indication that the film is well received by both the balcony as well as the stall audience.''

''Sajid Khan has excelled in his directorial debut and has got the pulse of the audience. He has balanced the comedy and emotional elements quite well in the film. Sajid Nadiadwala has marketed the film very well, 'Heyy Babyy' will be a blockbuster,'' Desai added.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra said, ''The opening is huge and it is a very well made film.'' Cinemax PR Head said, ''The collections are very encouraging. Everyone seems to be very happy after watching the film. Well executed comedies work big time, additionally the film is well marketed and generated a great buzz. The collections will be huge since Tuesday is Raksha Bandhan.''

Trade Analyst and Critic Taran Adarsh said, ''I just loved the film, it's an entertainer and will appeal to all segments of the audience.''
