Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was on Thursday released from Pune’s Yerwada Jail after a 37-day stay behind bars.
At around 8.30 am, Dutt’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde visited Yeravada jail with legal papers from the TADA court and delivered them to the jail authorities.
An hour later, Sanjay Dutt, clad in blue jeans and a white kurta, walked out from the jail accompanied by his good friend Yusuf Nulwalla.
Dutt went straight to Pune airport where a chartered aircraft was waiting to take him to Mumbai.
The actor, sentenced to six years' rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, had been granted bail by the Supreme Court on November 27.
Dutt, who looked in good spirits as he came out of the jail gates along with his friend and jail inmate Yusuf Nulwalla, waived at the crowd that had thronged to have a glimpse of the 'Munnabhai' and did not interact with the media or shake hands with any of the policemen.
The actor’s release from jail has brought relief to Bollywood producers who have planned films with him. Dutt will next be seen in Dus Kahaniyan , slated to release in December.
