HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Screen Awards: Taare Zameen Par and Chak De sweep the board11th Jan 2008 18.30 IST By Aparajita Ghosh Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par won six awards and Yashraj banner’s Chak De India won four awards in different major categories at the Nokia 14th Annual Star Screen Awards on Thursday in Mumbai. Held at the MMRDA grounds in the suburban Bandra-Kurla complex, the three-hour show saw the razzle dazzle of tinsel town as the who’s who of Bollywood came for one of the prestigious award function for Hindi film industry.
Vying for the top honours were films like ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘Chak De India’, Metro , Om Shanti Om and Guru . The glittering event saw performances by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan , Ritesh Deshmukh , Katrina Kaif , Dia Mirza , Amrita Arora and Shahid Kapoor . On top of it, host Sajid Khan made the evening entertaining by cracking jokes on almost anyone who met his eye. Conspicuous by his absence was Aamir Khan to whom the evening undoubtedly belonged. Whenever there was a mention of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ on stage, the whole gathering applauded from heart. Even Shatrughan Sinha (the head of the awards jury) could not contain his excitement and stated in his typical bombastic style that the jury was “proud of Aamir”, wherever he was. At the end of the day, there was joy for some and disappointment for others.
