Chunks of real life in 'Fashion'

Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Fashion draws a lot of inspiration from real life.

The movie is Bhandarkar’s attempt to expose the dark side of the dazzling fashion world. It derives a lot of inspiration from real life. The characters of Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut are believed to be based on extraordinary stories of some real models.

In addition, there are characters that add more chunks of life to celluloid. For instance, Pune’s model Mugdha Godse , who makes her acting debut in this film, plays a foul-mouthed model who uses crass language with expressions like jhandoo, phattoo, baangroo and waat lag gayi.

And there is also the character of a fashion magazine editor, apparently inspired from Meryl Streep in ‘Devil Wears Prada’.

Played by Maninee De, the character is “a snooty, manipulative and opportunistic fashion editor” who makes and breaks designers.

Mugdha, who plays the foul-mouthed model, says she has never used bad language in her life but Madhur Bhandarkar mentored her in such a way that foul words came naturally to her when the camera was rolling.

In the flick, Mugdha plays Janet, a model who has been in the fashion industry for years and knows its workings well. She is a bold girl who transforms into a sophisticated model when walking on ramp.

‘Fashion’ is currently in the making. It is the most expensive film by Bhandarkar yet.
