'Tashan' promises oodles of fun, attitude, and style

The style quotient touches a new high in this Friday’s release Tashan .

Imagine a rustic goon, expert in recovering anything from a bungalow to a buffalo from defaulters, on a mission of his life. Or a call centre employee who is a hit with girls but finds himself sucked into a whirlpool that threatens to take away what he loves the most – life. Or a wafer thin gal who delights in making fool of others and kicking the butts of baddies. Or a gangster and money launderer with an unflagging passion for speaking English, no matter how much twisted.

These are some of the characters of ‘Tashan’.

In case you are wondering who plays who – Akshay Kumar plays the rustic goon, Saif Ali Khan plays the Casanova, Kareena Kapoor plays the clever fox, and Anil Kapoor plays the English-infatuated ganglord.

The film is the directorial debut of Vijay Krishna Acharya (also known as Victor) who has written films like Dhoom and Dhoom 2 for Yashraj Films .

‘Tashan’ is high on style and attitude, thanks to the funky makeover of the actors and the outlandish outfits designed for them by Aki Narula , quite famous for defying the convention. So we see Akshay in gaudiest clothes and a trademark gamchha over his shoulder.

Kareena, who whittled all the flab away for her role, dons mini skirts, acid-wash jeans and garish jackets. Only in one song, “Dil Haara”, which she shot with Saif in Greece, does she don what are perceived as conventional feminine attires.

Saif sports a drooping moustache and wears designer cargos, vests and tees. Anil Kapoor’s suits in the film look foreign, but not without a hint of desi fashion.

Apart from the look, it is in its substance ‘Tashan’ promises style and entertainment. You can expect some good comedy from Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor. And for the first time you can witness the onscreen chemistry (if any) between real life lovers Saif and Kareena. The first sparks of love flew between the couple on the sets of ‘Tashan’.

And let us not forget the grungy, raw, edgy, rugged and yet powerful music of the film by Vishal-Shekhar.

From the look of it, ‘Tashan’ promises a paisa vasool treat. Let’s see if it dodges the box-office fate that most of Yashraj releases met last year.
