HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Now, Sanjay Dutt to play a Sikh!04th Aug 2008 19.35 IST By ApunKaChoice After Akshay Kumar 's turbaned act in Singh Is Kinng , it is Sanjay Dutt who's turning Sikh for the big screen. Sanjay and his good friend Bunty Walia are set to produce a period film on the Battle of Saragarhi which was fought in 1897 in North West Frontier Province (now in area bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan) between the soldiers of Sikh regiment (fighting for the British) and Afghan tribesmen. 21 brave Sikhs fought to death in the battle and yet remain unsung heroes. 
Bunty Walia, himself a Punjabi, knew about this battle and wanted to make a film on it. Coincidentally, director Rohit Jugraj talked to him about making a film on the same battle. Walia then approached Sanjay Dutt to play the lead role and Sanju not just agreed to act in the film but also co-produce it. The movie, titled 21 Battle of Saragarhi - From Ashes to Glory, will have Dutt playing the lead character of Havaldar Ishar Singh who bravely led the Sikh regiment. This would be the second time Sanju would be seen playing a Sikh. He previously played a Sikh in Sarhad Paar . Twenty other actors will also be roped in for the film, but none of them has been finalized yet. Bunty has plans to produce the film on a lavish scale. He is already negotiating with FX expert Chris Watts (who did special effects for '300') and ace Australian cinematographer Christopher Doyle (who's worked with the likes of Wong Kar Wai) for the movie. Bunty and Rohit have also given an audio-visual presentation about the film to IB Minister Priyaranjan Das Munshi and Defence Minister A K Antony. The movie will require a lot of preparation before shooting. It will be shot in Morocco.
