Bachna Ae Haseeno – making a fashion statement!

Ranbir Kapoor wore outfits with seven different shades of whites in just one song of Bachna Ae Haseeno .

When it comes to a movie about a charming Romeo and three beautiful haseena, the fashion styles of all the characters has to be bang on. Such was the challenge that Aki Narula faced while designing for this Siddharth Anand -directed movie by Yashraj Films .

The thing that thrilled Aki Narula was that it was the first time he was working with everyone in the film’s cast – Ranbir, Deepika Padukone , Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba . Secondly, the designer got a free hand from the director and producer. The only brief he was given was that the costumes had to look vibrant, hip, trendy and youthful.

The job became further difficult because the character played by each actor in the movie is significantly different from the other.

Bipasha Basu plays a modern, liberal minded, fashionable girl who works as a dancer in Mumbai. So Aki gave her clothes that any such girl in a metropolis would wear – tees, shorts, jeans and stylish tops.

In contrast to Bipasha, Minissha Lamba plays a small-town girl from Punjab. Accordingly, Aki gave her Patiala salwars, embroidered kurtis, denim cargos, jackets, capris and ganjee tops.

And in further contrast, Deepika Padukone plays an NRI. Aki gave her high-waist, skin-hugging jeans and pants, and sleeveless tops. Apart from this, Aki made Deepika wear a floral chiffon dress for the song ‘Khuda Jaane’ with Ranbir.

Of all the actors in the film, the one Aki loved dressing up the most was Ranbir. Since the movie has Ranbir playing a guy who ages from 19 to 30, his fashion tastes also change with time. So Aki had to give Ranbir a whole range of outfits from T-shirts to shirts, jackets, coats, pullovers, jeans, trousers and even cargo shorts. Not just this, Aki also made Ranbir wear bathrobe over a pair of jeans.

For the ‘Khuda Jaane’ song, Aki gave Ranbir clothes in seven types of whites. Aki also matched the colour of Ranbir’s fashion accessories like belts or scarves with the colour of Deepika’s clothes.

‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ chronicles the tale of a man’s romantic journey through three different relationships. The film hits the theatres on August 15.
