How Arjun Rampal transformed into a rockstar

Arjun Rampal not just assumed the get-up of a rockstar, he also learnt to play the guitar for his role in this Friday’s release Rock On .

What appears to be India’s first credible film on rock music is ready to hit the theatres. It tells the story of a rock band that breaks up but reunites years later to rock the nation. Every single actor of the film – Farhan Akhtar , Arjun, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny – had to actually learn to rock n’ roll before shooting the film.

While Farhan learnt singing, Luke (who’s always been into music) had to learn keyboards, and Purab had to learn the drums. But the toughest part of the band’s lead and rhythm guitarist went to Arjun.

Arjun had always been interested in music, but this was his first chance to actually learn to play the guitar. So he roped in Chandresh, the lead guitarist of ‘Dream Out Loud’, to teach him the instrument. At first, Arjun really struggled at the six-string. His soft fingertips would not be able to play the guitar. But the actor slogged and with time he learnt different musical scales and chords.

Within three months Arjun was able to play some melodies and songs.

That done, Arjun was given a new long-haired look by Adhuna (Farhan’s wife and the film’s stylist) by using hair extensions.

Eventually, Arjun loved playing the rockstar so much that he did not quit playing the guitar even after the film’s shoot was over. He bought himself two expensive guitars – one electric and the other an acoustic – from London.

The actor says he has already learnt to play some songs from his favourite bands like ‘The Doors’, ‘Eagles’ and ‘Pink Floyd’.

It seems Arjun is ready to ‘break on through to the other side’.
