Aamir Khan promises to do his best to get an Oscar

After the Oscar entry of Taare Zameen Par , now comes the tough task of lobbying the film in the US.

The movie, directed by Aamir Khan and starring the child prodigy Darsheel Safary , is India’s official entry for the 81st Academy Awards to be held early next year. Aamir, who has previously been at the Oscars when his movie Lagaan was nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category, says he will do his best to clinch a nomination this time too and probably win an Oscar to make India proud.

Aamir said hiring a good publicist and organising additional screenings of 'TZP' in Los Angeles and New York was on the top of his agenda as he prepares to promote the film in the US.

"I need to be stationed there throughout. It was possible for 'Lagaan' as I had taken a break for four years after its theatrical release. Right now, I am shooting for 3 Idiots and Ghajini (Hindi) ," Aamir is quoted as saying.

Aamir also dismissed the notion that he has some kind of aversion towards award functions, since he doesn’t attend any popular award shows in Bollywood.

"Lagaan did very well at the national film awards. I hope 'TZP' would also do the same. I recently received a prestigious award for 'TZP' in Chennai and was moved to tears at the honour," Aamir said.

"Oscars or BAFTA (British Academy of Films and Television Arts) are a platform to address a larger audience across the globe and create an awareness about Indian cinema worldwide," Aamir pointed.

However, the star added that the most important thing for him is not awards but the audience verdict.

"Awards have always been secondary to me. I have made a film for the audience and their verdict means the most to me. 'Taare Zameen Par' made a strong impact on the audiences and also earned Rs 131 crore at the box-office worldwide."
