Amitabh Bachchan – a fighter in health and sickness

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan turns 66 on Saturday. Sadly, there won’t be any celebration as the actor has been admitted to hospital.

Over his long age and an illustrious career of four decades, Big B has faced bigger health risks and emerged stronger each time. This health scare, too, shall pass. Godspeed!

The most deadly threat to the superstar’s life happened in year 1982 when he was hospitalized after a fatal injury while shooting a stunt for ‘Coolie’. Thousands of his fans had prayed to God as Amitabh battled for life in the hospital. The prayers were answered and the megastar survived. He returned to acting a more determined person and continued giving some memorable performances over the years.

Another major threat to his health occurred in 2005 when he was admitted to Delhi’s Escort Hospital after complaining of pain in the abdomen. He was later shifted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital where he had an intestinal surgery.

No sooner did Big B recuperate, he was back in action, recording songs and shooting his films. He shot some stunts for Bhoothnath and Aladdin and he shot for his movie Shoebite in extremely hostile weather conditions. Recently, he helmed a hectic ‘Unforgettable’ tour through North America and Europe.

The over-exertion took its toll on the superstar’s health and on his 66th birthday he has been admitted to Lilavati hospital in Mumbai due to abdominal pain. Reports say the superstar is suffering from acute intestinal obstruction but an official diagnosis won’t be available before Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the superstar’s well-wishers from the film industry have begun visiting the hospital to enquire about his health.
