Katrina's shocking brush with reality

The shooting of Yashraj Films presentation New York took the film's stars to places they hadn't anticipated. One such place was the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp (aka Gitmo), where many suspects who are deemed as terror threat to the US are imprisoned. Some of them are on a death row.

Accounts of the plight of the prisoners at Gitmo are plenty, and Katrina too had heard some from her director Kabir Khan . But shooting the film at the actual location was altogether a different experience for her.


"I was there (Gitmo) for just a day to shoot my portions. It was shocking to see the high-profile prison where people who were sentenced for their lives were also living," Katrina is quoted as saying in a media report.

However, since nobody is allowed to meet the prisoners, Katrina too could not talk to any of the inmates. But she'd already heard stories about how the prisoners who claim to be innocent refused to take food and water and were forcibly fed by shoving feeding tubes through their noses. Others inmates have made allegations of torture by prison officers; some have even committed suicide.

'New York' deals with the subject of American prejudice against a particular community after the 9/11 terror attacks. John Abraham , Katrina and Neil Nitin Mukesh play three friends whose lives are shattered when some of them become terror suspects because of their Muslim names.

The film hits theatres on June 26.
