Sreekumaran Malayalam mega star Mohanlal , Dileep and many other actors and actresses are heaving a huge sigh of relief. The smiles are back on their faces because the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association(MACTA) has called off the strike in support of their 8-point charter of demands.
The four-day strike, which began on June 19, ended following an agreement between MACTA and Kerala Film Producers Association(KFPA). As per the agreement, drivers in film industry will get a Rs 200 hike in their daily allowance, and the cine technicians, a Rs 100. raise. The agreement was announced by MACTA chairman and director Vinayan and KFPA secretary Kireedam Unni at a press conference held in Kochi. A significant feature of the agreement is that hereafter, directors, producers and production controllers will be collectively held responsible for overshooting of the budget of a film. Earlier, only directors used to be held responsible for overshooting of film budgets. Mohanlal and Dileep are happy as the shooting of their films ‘Alibhai’ and ‘Calcutta News’ respectively had been stopped following the strike. Now that the strike is over, shooting of both the films has been resumed. The other mega star Mammootty just managed to escape the strike as the shooting of his film, ‘Mission 90 Days’ had been completed before the strike commenced. So, the freeze is over, and it's lights, camera and action, again in Mollywood!
