Mohanlal plays an encounter specialist cop Narasimha in Ramu's version. In the original the late Sanjeev Kumar played the role of the Thakur who employs two mercenaries to nab Gabbar Singh immortalized by Amjad Khan.
In the new version Amitabh Bachchan is enacting the role of Gabbar. The character, a psychopathic criminal who controls the underworld is named Babban.
Ajay Devgan is Heero (played by Dharmendra in the original), and newcomer Prashant Raj is Raj Ranade (essayed by Bachchan in Sholay).
In the scene in which Babban chops the fingers of Narasimha, Mohanlal had to scream at the top of his voice. As a result, he lost his voice the next day!
The Tamil version of ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ is bound to be lapped up by the fans of Kollywood and Mollywood as the original ‘Sholay’ continues to draw big crowds in the South.
