The grand spectacle on Friday was the gathering of Tamil cinema's top stars to express solidarity with the Government's stand on the Hogenakkal water project. Leading the glittering array of stars was none other than redoubtable Rajnikant . It must have been a difficult decision for Rajnikant, a Maharashtrian born and brought up in Karnataka, to join the protest fast organized by the South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) outside the Government Guest House in Chennai. 
But to the credit of the super star, he not only observed the daylong fast along with other top actors and actresses but also lashed out at the politicians of Karnataka for denying Tamil Nadu its share of water. Rajni's fiery speech drew tremendous applause from the huge gathering of stargazers, says the Kollywood buzz. All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi leader Sarath Kumar , who is also the president of Tamil Nadigar Sangham, shared the dais with Rajni and other stars. All cinema shows were cancelled until 6 p.m. and film units stopped work to be part of the "Star Parade". The crowd that turned up to watch the 'live show' matched the turnout for the recent India-South Africa Test match at nearby Chepauk. Among the stars who participated in the fast were Kamal Haasan , Vijaykant, Sarath Kumar, Ajith , Madhavan , Vikram , Khushboo , IPL's Chennai Super Kings brand ambassadors Vijay and Nayantara , Rajnikant's daughter Aishwarya and son-in-law Dhanush . Cheers went up as the fans spotted the red, white and blue flag of the Rajnikant fans' association. As the super star reached the venue around 11.15, clad in black trousers and white linen shirt, the crowd went into raptures.
