HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | DOWN SOUTH : TAMIL Kollywood takes lead as Mexico eyes Indian film industry19th Apr 2008 14.00 IST By Agencies With the multi-billion Indian film industry going global, sizzling Mexico with its scenic and myriad locations is the latest country trying to woo filmmakers from India to shoot on its soil. The trend appears to have been set by Kollywood. Tamil hero Vikram 's much-talked about ‘Kanthaswamy’ was shot in Mexico, the first Indian film to be filmed in this country, during which authorities in Mexico City were encouraged to actively explore opportunities in the sector.
Sensing the possibilities of marketing itself as the next destination for the Indian film industry, the Mexican government has roped in Kanthaswamy's producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu and team to project itself to the Indian film industry. Thanu has been made as the Honorary Council General of Mexico in Chennai by the Mexican government. Vikram along with Thanu and director Susi Ganesan would be coming to Mexico again later this week. The government in Mexico City also wants to have a collaboration with the Indian industry not only in technical part of it but also in other fields, says Indian Ambassador Ringzin Wangdi. Even President Pratibha Patil, in a speech at the reception hosted in her honour by the Indian community, said film and television have an important part to play in this regard. "Both our countries have vibrant film and television industry. Greater interaction between them should be encouraged. You can all play a role in this process," she said late Thursday night.
