HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | DOWN SOUTH : TAMIL Rajnikant woos pro-Kannada groups ahead of 'Kuselan' release30th July 2008 11.00 IST By Agencies Tamil superstar Rajnikant Tuesday sought the cooperation of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to ensure a smooth release of his new film, after some pro-Kannada groups raised objections to it over his stand on the controversial Hogenakkal project. His latest flick Kuselan would hit theatres on August 1. 
In a bid to mollify opposition from the groups, the actor, born in Maharashtra and raised in Karnataka, in a letter to the chambers in Kannada, said he was pained to know that what he had spoken during the Hogenakal debate had "hurt some people". "It is against my nature to hurt anybody", Rajnikant, who has a large fan following in Karnataka and in Tamil dominated sections in the city, said. The pro-Kannada groups, including the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, had opposed the release of the film alleging that his statement favouring implementation of the project, opposed by Karnataka, during the row with Tamil Nadu over the Hogenakkal drinking water project, had hurt the sentiments of the people of the state. "My only aim, wish and desire is that because of us people should not be put to any inconvenience", he said in the signed letter. "As I have said before, my films in Karnataka are viewed by not just Tamils and Kannadigas but by people of all linguistic backgrounds", he said. "So, I seek your cooperation for the release of 'Kuselan', so that they (fans) do not face any problems", he said.
