Tamil industry heaps praises on Rahman

"He (Rahman) is special. That’s all. It doesn't matter which award he gets. All that matters is that his work has been recognised internationally…We all should be proud of it and I am especially very proud of him," Mani Ratnam said after Rahman’s win in Los Angeles.

Ratnam introduced Rahman to the film industry through his film 'Roja' and has worked with him over the years in many projects.


Unlike some people in the industry who feel Slumdog Millionaire did not deserve to win, Mani thinks the movie is “brilliant”.

“I think every victory is good and 'Slumdog' is a brilliant film and hopefully, very soon, an Indian film will make it at the Oscars,” Ratnam is quoted as saying.

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan and Surya , too, showered praises on Rahman. Kamal said he is waiting to meet Rahman upon the latter’s return home.

"I am looking forward to meet Rahman in Chennai. I have to discuss with him about the new film we are currently working on," Haasan is quoted as saying.
