Suneet Varma , one of the leading fashion designers of India, has been invited to Alta Roma, the Rome Couture Week, to be held in mid-July.
Indian designers have earned quite a name for themselves in the international fashion industry of late. Just last month Rina Dhaka returned with the designers' choice award from the Fashion Week of Americas in Miami. And now Suneet Varma is readying to head to the land of Versace and Valentino to show his creations at Alta Roma.
According to Andrea Bonardi, the secretary-general for Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce (IICC), Indian designers are in vogue in Europe because of their unique ethnic creations, their traditional style of embroidery and zardozi.
Varma has already got partial sponsorship from IICC for his show in Rome. He has been asked to present a collection that will be a reflection of India. So Varma's collection is likely to feature a lot of saris with corsets and lehengas with shirts.
In addition to Varma's fashion show, there will also be a festival of Indian films, an Andhra Pradesh handicrafts expo and a food promotion event in Rome.
