Amrita Hunjan , Miss India-United Kingdom, was crowned the Miss India-Worldwide 2005 title at a gala event held at the Tulip Star Hotel in Mumbai on Sunday.
Contestants from 14 countries went through several segments over three days, doing talent items, modeling eastern and western wear, and finally answering questions to a panel of judges that included Bollywood personalities Dino Morea , Preeti Jhangiani , Sanjay Suri and Aarti Chabria.
It was 19-year-old Amrita Hunjan, a student of dentistry at the University of Birmingham in Leeds (Britain), who wrested away the title with her incredibly natural flair, beauty and talent. The runners-up were Miss India-Netherlands Reshma Vliet in second place and Miss India-Singapore Thebashini Jeevan taking the third prize.
In the talent segment, some of the contestants showed how they had adapted to the cultures of their adopted lands without sacrificing their Indian heritage.
Miss India-South Africa Suraya Naidoo combined Indian and African dance, while Miss India-France Anusha Cherer performed a kathak dance to classical French music.
Hunjan, too, impressed many with her singing talent.
