British filmmaker Danny Boyle’s next movie tells the story of a Mumbai slum kid who goes on to become a millionaire.
The movie, titled Slumdog Millionaire will be an unusual love story set in Mumbai, the city of many contradictions where slums are found alongside skyscrapers. The film narrates the tale of a street kid who contests in a TV show (similar to ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’) to win the heart of a girl who, he knows, watches the programme everyday.
The movie has been written by Simon Beaufoy (who wrote the hilarious ‘The Full Monty’) and will star Brit newcomer Dev Patel in the lead role.
According to reports on Variety, the film will be made under Celador Films and Film4.
The shooting of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is set to begin in Mumbai this November.
Danny Boyle has already been visiting Mumbai and has met a number of filmmakers here, including Anurag Kashyap and Sudhir Mishra .
Danny has directed films like ‘Trainspotting’, ‘A Life Less Ordinary’, ‘Shallow Grave’ and ‘The Beach’.
