HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HOLLYWOOD Shekhar Kapur takes over Anthony Minghella's unfinished film24th Mar 2008 19.45 IST By ApunKaChoice Indian-born director Shekhar Kapur has stepped in to direct a film that was originally meant to be made by British filmmaker Anthony Minghella, who died a few days back. Minghella, who won an Oscar for his superb direction in the 1996 movie ‘The English Patient’, passed away on March 18 after a surgery to remove the cancer of tonsils and neck. Before the surgery, Minghella had requested Shekhar Kapur to take over the short film that he was to direct as a part of the omnibus picture ‘New York, I Love You’. Anthony had reportedly told Shekhar that he was too ill to direct.
However, Shekhar waited for Anthony to undergo surgery. He hoped that Anthony would recover. In fact, Shekhar had a long conversation with Anthony before he was admitted to the hospital. Sadly, Minghella could not recover and passed away. Now, Shekhar deems it his duty to make the film as Anthony wanted it to. The script has already been written by Minghella. Shekhar is now looking for suitable actors for the film. ‘New York, I Love You’ will be a series of short films by a number of directors like Mira Nair , Brett Ratner, Scarlett Johannson, Natalie Portman, Andrei Zvyagintsev, Wen Jiang and Fatih Akin. Shekhar will begin shooting the film from next month.
