Heath Ledger is favourite to win Oscar

First it was Hugh Jackman, the show's host, who expressed his desire to see his compatriot, Heath Ledger, win the posthumous Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category for his negative role in Batman flick 'The Dark Knight'. Now, the late actor has emerged as the strongest favourite among the bookies as well.

The Australian star is a 1-50 to get the award, which is shortest odds ever, according to bookmakers William Hill, the Mirror reported.


The bookies predict that the odds are likely to get even shorter ahead of the ceremony. Some online bookmakers are already offering staggering odds of 1-100 for the actor.

Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose in January last year, has already bagged a BAFTA and the Golden Globe for his villainous role as 'The Joker' in "The Dark Knight".

"Heath is such an absolute certainty you've got to feel a bit sorry for the fellow nominees. They have no absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

He also predicted a guaranteed win for Slumdog Millionaire under the Best Movie category with odds of 1-10.
