I learnt from newcomers in Chak De India: Shah Rukh

Despite working in Bollywood for 18 years, Shah Rukh Khan says he got to learn a lot from newcomers in Chak De India .

‘Chak De India’ is a very unconventional film by SRK’s standards. Except SRK it has no big stars, no heroine opposite him and no love angle. The movie has sixteen newcomers (all girls) as players of a hockey team that SRK coaches.

SRK says that before shooting with the newcomers he was a little patronizing and kind towards them, as a senior is often towards his juniors. He also thought that working with newcomers would be a hassle. But SRK was proved wrong.

“At the end of it all, I thought I got a lot to learn. Newcomers have certain rawness when they face the camera. With experience actors tend to get mechanized. When you see a newcomer act, you think: “this is not the way I would do”. But when you hear it out it sounds very right,” SRK told a news channel.

SRK says not just in acting, but also on the Hockey field he got to learn from the girls.

SRK, who himself used to play hockey in his school days, says he thought he would be able to outshine the girls.

“I thought playing against girls will be easy but let me tell you, they were fast and more efficient than me…I think they were very hardworking and wonderful. They put their heart and soul into the film,” SRK is quoted as saying.

‘Chak De India’ is directed by Shimit Amin . The movie has SRK playing a Hockey coach who was disgracefully removed as a player from the game in his heydays. Years later, he returns to coach a rag-tag bunch of girls in a hockey team. The film tells the story of a coach's fight to make his team, Team India, the best in the world.

The film will hit the theatres on coming Friday.
