'Delhi-6' is a journey within: Rakeysh Mehra

Inspired from events of his own childhood, ‘Delhi 6’ is partly a semi-biographical tale of Mehra set inside Delhi’s walled city where the director grew as a teenager.

"Delhi-6 is much more than a movie. I have dipped the pen in the ink of my childhood memories and setting them against today's contemporary India, have tried to weave a story," Mehra said while interacting with reporters in Mumbai.


The director added that the theme of the movie is such that it urges us to look within.

"We are all living in difficult times and the film urges us to look within and if there is an answer then it is love because that's the law of nature and its creation," he said.

'Delhi-6' has Abhishek Bachchan playing an American NRI who comes to India to accompany his ailing grandmother to Delhi where she wants to spend the rest of her remaining life.

Having led a western lifestyle, Roshan is not familiar with the sites and smells, the food and culture, the religion and beliefs, this huge melting pot that India is. He thought Dadi has left her family and loved ones back in America, only to realise how wrong he was.

The warmth and affection of the neighbourhood embraces him with open arms. Amidst all this he meets Bittu ( Sonam Kapoor ), who is looking for identity and expression and wants to break free from the typical Indian social structure, to whom Roshan is destined to lose his heart.

The movie is set to release on February 20. In the coming days Abhishek would also join Rakeysh and Sonam in promoting the film.
