I've never thought of myself as beautiful: Kangana Ranaut

Not many actresses are comfortable talking about their looks, especially if they don’t happen to be the most beautiful ones in the lot. But Kangana Ranaut doesn’t care a fig and doesn’t mince a word in making some tough confessions.

“I've never thought of myself as beautiful. In fact, I've always suffered from low self-esteem. Till recently I'd look at my pictures and cringe...And to now play Madhubala in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai - how will I do it?" Kangana is quoted by IANS.


The film, set in the Mumbai of 1960s, tells a story of underworld don Haji Mastan and his fascination for actress Madhubala. Ajay Devgan plays the don while Kangana plays the legendary actress.

Kangana admits that the most challenging aspect of her role would be to look as stunning as Madhubala.

“How will I manage to play the most beautiful woman that Indian cinema has ever seen? My characters have always had a dark and light side. And this one is no exception. But the challenge for me is to look almost ethereally beautiful, like Madhubala” Kangana is quoted as saying.

Kangana says while playing the role, she won’t copy Madhubala but try to get into her mind and heart.
The film is being directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor. It also stars Emraan Hashmi as young Dawood Ibrahim.
