The Bhangra pop scene seems to be getting hotter and hotter. Now it’s three young aspirants Jasmeet, Jolly and Julies jumping aboard the already overcrowded Bhangra bandwagon. The three Js have put together a powder packed fusion group aptly named ‘Joshilay’.
Their self-titled debut album released under Milestone label is already hogging attention. Particularly striking is their distinct style of music, which blends Punjabi, Hindi and Bhojpuri. One of their songs ‘Muniya re Muniya’ is a delectable fusion of Bhangra beats and Bhojpuri tune. The song has become a regular at dance parties and so has its sleek video starring VJ Mini Mathur on MTV.
Two of the trio, Jolly and Jasmeet are MBAs who preferred wielding the microphone to the call of corporate life. Julious, the odd man in, was hobnobbing with various rock bands until he decided to make his own music. He has already worked with artists like Daler Mehandi, Anamika and Shewta Shetty.
With Punjabi-Pop becoming the in-thing, the trio thought it was about the time to strike the iron. And strike they did with full josh and out they came with their debut high-energy pelvic friendly self-titled album.
The response to their nine-song album has been good so far. But only time will tell whether Joshilay can find a foothold in the overcrowded Indipopdom.
