SCOOP!! & NEWS ‘Nightingale’ of Hindi music turns 7528th Sept 2004 18.30 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Lata Mangeshkar , the nightingale of Hindi film music, turns 75 on Tuesday. The melody queen has been unparalleled for many decades and is presently too hogging the limelight for her singing in Yash Chopra’s Veer Zaara . From Madhubala to Madhuri Dixit, Lata has lent her mellifluous voice to almost all great actresses of the Indian film world. 
Born in 1929 in the family of doyen Marathi Natyasangeet, Dinnanth Mangeshkar, Lata was groomed by Ustad Aman Ali and then by Ustad Amanath Khan and PL Tulsidas Sharma. Inspired by Noorjehan and KL Saigal, Lata went on to carve a niche for herself. Be it unforgettable Aayega Aayega Aanewala or famous Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon, her songs like Lag Ja Gale, Raina Beeti Jaye have set her class apart. She was awarded the Padmabhushan way back in 1969 and the Dadasaheb Phalke in 1989. On her 75th birthday, Lata thanked god for being kind to her and for giving her success in the industry.
